NEW ATCA MEMBERS | Washington, Baltimore, Chicago, New York

For the fourth week in a row, the UPDATE is able to welcome another new member to our ranks. Ramona Harperhas in excess of 100 reviews to her credit on Washington’s DCMetroTheaterArts website. She says she is “committed to the expansion of public awareness about the importance of the performing arts, and theater in particular.” She adds: “As an African American woman, I believe that it is important for a diversity of opinions to be represented in publications that evaluate the performing arts.” You can access all of her reviews (in chronological order) by doing a search of her name at www.dcmetrotheaterarts.com. (April 16, UPDATE)

ATCA’s newest member is Steve Capra of New York, who says he believes that a critic should be involved in creating theater as well as criticizing it. He has worked extensively as actor, director and producer off-off-Broadway and in Massachusetts. For two years he was a series producer for Judith Malina and The Living Theater in New York. His 2004 book, Theater Voices (Rowman and Littlefield/Scarecrow Press - ISBN 0810850478) contains interviews with theater leaders including Edward Albee, Harold Prince, Sir Peter Hall and Sir Alan Ayckbourn, and his plays are produced from time to time in NYC. You can read his latest reviews on his website newyorkcritic.org. (April 9, UPDATE)

ATCA adds Kim Campbellto the ranks. She is a theater and circus critic for Third Coast Reviewand formerly of Gapers Block in Chicago. She favors the offbeat, eclectic incubator theater that Chicago is often prone to producing with its improv scene and its quirky festivals such as the International Puppet Theatre Festival, Fillet of Solo, Rhinoceros Festival or Physical Theater Festival Chicago. She throws in a little Broadway or Shakespeare theater upon occasion. Most days, you can find her writing about contemporary circus around the world through her work as editor of CircusTalk.(April 2, UPDATE)

Jack Gohn, who originally came to theater criticism from a background in literary studies, has joined ATCA. Jack reviewed theater for various publications starting with his college paper. Currently he covers theater in Baltimore and surrounding areas for BroadwayWorld (where you can find his most recent reviews), and writes about theater nationally for The Hopkins Review. If you’d like to dig deeper into his work, you can find links to his reviews 2010 to 2018 on his wide-ranging blog, The Big Picture and the Closeup. (March 26, UPDATE)
