DESCRIPTION:Lauren Van Hemert \nAs podcasting has proliferated\, so has an array of critical voices available in programs from coast to coast. At our next ATCA Connects event\, ATCA member Elizabeth Kramer talks to three people working in podcasting about theater\, giving varied perspectives on American theater. \nLauren Van Hemert\, founder of Beltline to Broadway and an ATCA member out of Raleigh\, North Carolina hosts a podcast that focuses on community-based reporting covering theater. \nJames Marino \nJames Marino\, who founded BroadwayRadio in 2009\, is a technologist who came from the publishing industry with an affinity for theater and music to create the network. BroadwayRadio has released more than 3000 shows in the past 13 years. He previously launched BroadwayStars ATCA member Jan Simpson hosts and produces two network podcasts on BroadwayRadio\, “All the Drama” and “Stagecraft\,” and is an occasional panelist on “This Week on Broadway” on which another ATCA member\, Peter Filichia\, is a regular. \nKaveh Taherian \nKaveh Taherian\, co-founded the podcast series Musicalsplaining in 2020 out of Los Angeles\, which he now co-hosts with writer Angelina Meehan. In each episode\, the two introduce a different musical and discuss its plot\, themes\, and production. Sometimes guests\, such as popular YouTubers\, join in. Kaveh’s background is in illustration/design and film production. \nATCA Connects events are free for ATCA members to attend. SUMMARY:ATCA Connects | A conversation with playwright Paula Vogel
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Tuesday\, Feb. 15\, 2022 at 8 p.m. EST for a conversation with Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Paula Vogel\, hosted by ATCA member Wendy Rosenfield. \nPaula Vogel \nVogel’s play “Indecent” was nominated in 2017 for an outstanding play Tony Award. Her Pulitzer Prize-winning play “How I Learned to Drive” opens on Broadway in April 2022 with the same three leading actors and director as when it premiered 25 years ago off-Broadway. \nThe pandemic pause has given Vogel the chance to work on a wave of projects\, including producing a dozen works on-line by other playwrights in the “Bard at the Gate” project for the McCarter Theatre Center in Princeton\, New Jersey. She wrote her first memoir\, “Travels Without Carl\,” based on her cross-country road trip when she visited women’s bars through the Deep South and West\, following the death of her brother from AIDS in 1988. \nShe has continued her playwriting workshops online\, including a new one for veterans. Vogel\, an acclaimed playwriting professor\, mentor and theatrical guru — with many of her students going on to earn Pulitzer Prizes and Tony Awards of their own — is also halfway through a book on the art of playwriting. \nWendy Rosenfield \nIn conversation with Vogel will be Wendy Rosenfield\, the former editor-in-chief of Broad Street Review. Rosenfield was a theater critic for the Philadelphia Inquirer from 2006-2017\, and was theater critic for the Philadelphia Weekly from 1995 to 2001.
