Wendi Winters [1953-2018]

The shooting at the Capital Gazette Reporter in Annapolis on June 28, 2018, claimed five lives including that of arts writer Wendi Winters, a contributor to DC Metro Theatre Arts and a colleague of ATCA member David Siegel, who shares the following reflection:

“It is with utter sadness that I let my ATCA colleagues know of the death of Wendi Winters, a journalist with the Capital Gazette Reporter and DC Metro Theater Arts. Wendi was a full-time staff member of the Gazette and a long-time DCMTA theater reviewer. For DCMTA she covered the DC area arts scene writing with wit and keen observations. Beyond theater writing for DCMTA Wendi had also been a Helen Hayes Awards judge.DCMTA Publisher and Editor-in-Chief Nicole Hertvik said, “We consider ourselves a family at DC Metro Theater Arts, and Wendi was a part of that family. We are devastated to learn of her passing. We at DCMTA extend our sympathy and love to Winters’ family and friends.”A recent review of a Kennedy Center production by Winters can be read here.
