Critic Ben Brantley caps 24-year career at New York Times

The American Theatre Critics Association congratulates New York Times theater critic Ben Brantley on his extraordinary 24-year run as chief theater critic of that newspaper, the longest tenure since Brooks Atkinson. Brantley, whose last day is October 15, has a singular and exhaustive knowledge of the field he covers and readers across the world have been the beneficiaries of his wit, style and  taste. We also have admired his ethical standards and his belief in fairness.

His fellow theater critics salute him for a high-pressure job well done, even across an era of constant artistic and cultural change. We wish him the very best in what he chooses to do next with his talents as a writer and an analyst of the art form in which we all so passionately believe.
