ATCA Statement of Support for international colleague Wiebke Huester
We strongly and unequivocally condemn the violence perpetrated against our international colleague, Wiebke Huester, who was assaulted by an artist displeased by an unfavorable review. A critic should be able to do her job without the fear of physical altercation, and artists working at the highest levels of their profession should understand and respect the role of the critic within the ecosystem of the performing arts. In the end, we must recognize what this incident represents: not just a horrific personal violation, but an attempt to infringe upon the sovereignty of the free press through intimidation. We hope that justice for Wiebke will prevail, and that no critic will be made to feel unsafe for simply doing their job.
