2019 inductions for Theater Hall of Fame
Bebe Neuwirth described Ann Reinking as having “oozed, slithered, exploded, wiggled and vaulted like a wondrous creature from our dreams.” “What did I do” to earn induction, asked Michael Feingold: “I just kept writing for a half-century.” And “how can you retire from your own life?,” asked Emily Mann.
These are snippets from the 49th annual induction ceremony on Nov. 18 of the Theater Hall of Fame, for which ATCA members provide the bulk of the electorate. It’s modest compared to some awards ceremonies. A warm celebration for Hall inductees, members, and their families and friends, there is no TV or media scrum. But there is nothing modest about the array of names in raised gold letters on the walls of the Gershwin Theatre. Long-time ATCA member Chris Rawson, who has written comprehensively about the event for decades, does so again: CLICK HERE. As a bonus, read the complete induction speeches of Neuwirth for Reinking and John Doyle for Andre De Shields. Videos of the annual ceremony since 1995, with a couple of gaps, are in the NYPL for the Performing Arts.
