ATCANY2024 | “No One Asked Us To Do This” third consecutive annual meeting in New York City

ATCANY2024 | “No One Asked Us To Do This” third consecutive annual meeting in New York City

ATCA will hold its annual meeting in New York City Friday November 8 — Sunday, November 10, 2024. “No One Asked Us to Do This” will be held at several venues in Manhattan, with a special screening on Thursday, November 7 for conference registrants.

This is the third time that ATCA members have convened in the same midtown meeting space for the initial meeting date, following 2022’s “Reseated and In Person” (our first face to face conference after the two-year covid disruption) and 2023’s “Holding the Curtain.” This year, conference attendees will also hold sessions at the Upright Citizen’s Brigade and TOFT at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts, and tour the newly refurbished Palace Theatre.

A study of ATCA conference history shows most annual conferences have been located around the country outside New York City since 1974. That routine has now adapted to annual conferences in NYC, with occasional regional and virtual events during the year.

The 2024 conference committee has worked since May 2024 mulling ideas, identifying speakers, and finalizing plans for the 2024 conference line up. The Association thanks the crew for their work, including Scott Bennett, David John Chávez, Jay Handelman, Lou Harry, Bill Hirschman, Gerard Raymond, Frank Rizzo, and Martha Wade Steketee.

The words of veteran director Jack O’Brien inspired the conference committee to craft this year’s quirky event title. “No one asked us to do this,” O’Brien reflected when accepting his 2024 Special Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Theatre. Those words, the committee feels, capture the love our members have for the theatrical art form and celebrate our efforts to foster the arts in our local communities across the country.

The schedule of events and locations, available to ATCA members and their guests can be viewed on the conference event page.

For ATCA members and guests, Full Price tickets are available through November 8. Current members need to purchase tickets for themselves and their guests, and will need to login and then visit the conference event page to access event tickets.
