Jack Lyons | California theater and film critic

Jack Lyons, a veteran freelance theater and film critic for several decades in Southern California, died last week after a prolonged battle with prostate cancer. He was an active ATCA member since 2011, notable for reaching out to newcomers at the annual conferences.

Based most recently in Palm Springs, his work appeared in print, television, radio, websites and his own blog, most notably Desert Local News and Berkshire Fine Arts. He reviewed work at the Mark Taper Forum, the Ahmanson, Center Theatre Group, Geffen Playhouse, Wallis Theatre, and Pasadena Playhouse in the Los Angeles area, and The Old Globe, San Diego Rep, North Coast Rep, and the La Jolla Playhouse in the San Diego area.

With credits in writing, producing and directing, he was a member of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, Writers Guild of America, and Screen Actors Guild.
