NEW MEMBERS | John Orr and Lauren Van Hemert

(Oct 12, 2018 UPDATE)

ATCA is pleased to welcome the following new members to the association:

JOHN ORR | Sunnyvale, CA
“I’ve been writing about theater for 40 years, starting in college, continuing through writing about major shows in Los Angeles (Zero Mostel as Tevye, Anthony Hopkins as Prospero) for the Palm Springs Desert Sun to covering the San Francisco Bay Area for what became the Bay Area News Group for the last 19 years. I’ve interviewed theater creators ranging from David Henry Hwang to Lauren Gunderson to Marcus Gardley, performers ranging from Kathleen Turner to Keith Pinto to Adrian Blue. I have reviewed hundreds of plays. I want to be counted among critics I respect, and if possible, serve the theater world as well. I’ve never been much of a joiner, but have learned the value of mixing with professionals in a field I love.”

LAUREN VAN HEMERT | Cary, NC
“I am a graduate of Indiana University-Bloomington, where I majored in Journalism with a minor in Theater. Prior to graduation, I hosted a weekly talk show on Public Radio WDNA Miami and worked as a production intern for As The World Turns. I currently live in Cary, North Carolina with my husband and two children, where I have been an advocate for arts education in the schools. I am enjoying writing feature articles and reviews on the theatre in Raleigh, North Carolina as a Contributing Editor for Broadway World and would like to advance my career as a professional, credible freelance writer and critic, as well as network with other theatre critics in an effort to hone my craft and provide the best content my audience.”
