ROBERT FAIRES | Austin, TX

This year’s slate of inductees in the Texas Institute of Letters includes poets, fiction and non-fiction writers, songwriters, playwrights, screenwriters, scholars and, in an unusual addition, a theater critic: ATCA’s own Robert Faires. The Institute is an honor society that has celebrated Texas literature and recognized distinctive literary achievement by Texans  since 1936. Its President, Dr. Carmen Tafolla, described this year’s honorees as “the very finest representatives of what it means to be outstanding, productive and dynamically engaged in the advancement of letters.” Faires is the Austin Chronicle’s Theatre Editor. He co-chairs the Austin Critics Table and co-founded both the Austin Young Critics Seminar and the Austin Arts Hall of Fame. According to the Institute’s release, Faires “has published hundreds of elegantly crafted theater criticisms.”
